Gustavo Melella, governor of Tierra del Fuego, made a serious denunciation on Twitter: "the introduction of a nuclear submarine in the South Atlantic Ocean", and warned that "it implies an act of extreme gravity for all the States of the region".
According to the governor, the information was provided by the commander of the submarine force in the Atlantic of the United States and "reveals a flagrant violation of the Zone of Peace and Cooperation of the South Atlantic approved by resolution 41/11 of the UN General Assembly".
According to Melella, if the nuclear submarine entered Argentine sovereign spaces, "it would be an unprecedented event in our history" and at the same time he warned that it would be an "act of extreme gravity for all the States of the region".
Melella pointed out that the same commander informed him that there was "cooperation on the part of British planes based in the Malvinas Islands", which would have been mentioned as "independent British territory". Having said this, the governor underlined that this would be an "action contrary" to the UN resolutions as well as to the official position of the United States Government.
"We express our extreme concern for this unacceptable action not only for our province and our country, but for all the citizens of the world who fight against colonialism and for living in a world without nuclear weapons", concluded the governor of Tierra del Fuego.
