FIFA, the Local Organising Committee and adidas confirmed Sunday that, after three weeks of voting, the name chosen by fans around the world for the Brazil 2014 World Cup ball was "Brazuca".

The more than one million voters, 77.8 percent leaned toward that option, while 14.6 percent chose "Bossa Nova" and the remaining 7.6 preferred "Carnavalesca".

As explained by FIFA through its web site, the term "Brazuca" is used by Brazilians to describe the national pride in the lifestyle of their country.

"I have the ball security Brazuca go down in history along with other famous balls of the World Cup FIFA, as Tango, Argentina used in 1978, or Aztec, used in Mexico in 1986," said FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke.
